Hemigraphis sp. ‘Big Leaf’
Family: Acanthaceae
Type: Tropical foliage plant (terrarium & indoor suitable)
Description:
Hemigraphis ‘Big Leaf’ is a striking tropical foliage plant known for its broad, wavy leaves that display a rich metallic sheen. The upper leaf surface typically ranges from deep green to silver-purple, while the underside shows a strong violet tone, giving the plant an elegant two-tone appearance under light.
Growth Habit:
A low-growing, creeping to slightly bushy plant. In high humidity and bright indirect light, leaves grow larger and more textured.
Ideal Conditions:
- Light: Medium to bright indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sun as it may scorch the leaves.
- Humidity: High humidity (70%+ preferred). Excellent choice for terrariums, paludariums, and vivariums.
- Water: Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. It prefers well-draining, biologically active substrate.
- Temperature: Warm (22–28°C). Avoid cold drafts.
Care Notes:
This plant thrives where moisture and warmth are consistent. In open pots, regular misting or a humidifier is recommended. In enclosed terrariums, it maintains strong color and leaf size naturally.
Use Cases:
- Terrariums & bioactive setups
- Indoor tropical displays
- Paludarium edge planting
- Accent plant in shaded garden areas in tropical climates
